To a greater or lesser extent, every church engages in three areas of experience: community, mission and worship. Where these three overlap, a church's "spirituality" can be found, the author argues. This is the pulsating heart beat that gives life and growth and enables individual Christians to engage with the culture that surrounds them courageously and creatively. The problem for many churches is that there is a gaping hole where the very heart of their life should be. These are the churches that refuse to grow, that from the outside are percieved as having nothing to offer. This work should help every church diagnose and treat those problems which stifle its spirituality and will empower members and leaders alike to become visionary, missionary congregations.
